Black Panther made another $10 million yesterday, which is a 50% drop-off from last Tuesday. If that percentage holds, it should still hit $50+ million this weekend. The only downside is that it's losing some of it's PLF screens this weekend to Red Sparrow (although not many). Here in Indianapolis, most of the PLF screens are sticking with BP, although one is switching it's IMAX to RS on Thursday night.

I’m sure BP will be back in IMAX theaters after one week. Same for Wrinkle in Time

Doesn't Wrinkle In Time open next weekend? It seems likely that would pretty much take over most of the PLF screens.

Yes, but because it shares the same parent student (Disney) as Black Panther, if the film underperforms and Black Panther continues to overperform, they'll adjust the screenings for whatever will be most beneficial to their business. A Wrinkle In Time will get the first weekend to itself most likely, but if it doesn't sell a lot of tickets while Black Panther continues to, then look for premium screens to be readjusted the following weekend.

I have to admit, Wrinkle In Time just reads "BOMB" all over it to me; the material isn't exciting, the film looks goofy; and I keep thinking about the failure that was Tomorrowland with it.

I just saw a TV spot for Tomb Raider, opening March 16, which name-dropped IMAX as part of its release. So that will be in the mix as well. We only have one IMAX screen here, so unless they want to split showtimes between multiple things at different times of day, we can only have one at a time. I guess IMAX is doing more one-week runs of things unless it's something really huge.

Box Office Pro has now lowered opening weekend estimates for Red Sparrow down to $20 million.

I don't see a lot of interest for this film, plus it's rated R (makes it a little harder for JLaw's fanbase to show up). My 7pm showing last night had about 15-20 people in attendance. If it only hits around the $25 million mark for the weekend, would not be surprised.

Was it any good?

Does it, though? The audiences who were teenagers during her Hunger Games run should have (mostly) aged into into 17+ now, so tey should be able to follow her to it if they so choose.

Interestingly, my AMC (home of our sole IMAX) just put up advance tickets for Tomb Raider IMAX opening on March 16 in 2D, and Pacific Rim: Uprising opening on March 23 in both 2D and 3D (3D twice a day, the others 2D.) I think this is the first time since Wonder Woman that our IMAX has given a 3D option. While I need 2D, as you know, it's nice to see that they've decided to accommodate both viewing preferences on this title

That being said, they are the only theater around here that is NOT selling advance tickets for Wrinkle in Time yet, so I legitimately don't know if Wrinkle will have a one-week IMAX run next week or if they are keeping Red Sparrow for a second week. Either seems possible. In any case, it seems like our IMAX is spoken for the foreseeable future, so there isn't an opening for Black Panther to return here.

March 31 is the opening for Ready Player One, which WB has also booked onto IMAX, so it seems like everything between now and then will have one-week runs. As I am not interested in Tomb Raider or Pacific Rim, my next IMAX movie will be Ready Player On, or Wrinkle if we end up getting that.

I can't imagine they would keep Red Sparrow a 2nd week as opposed to opening Wrinkle In Time. Red Sparrow will probably be somewhere around $10 million next weekend and Wrinkle In Time is projected at $39 million. Even if Wrinkle In Time were to drastically underperform at let's say $30 million, it's still going to be doing 3x the amount of business of Red Sparrow. Then again, using that logic they probably should have held Black Panther over again this weekend as it's going to crush everything else again.

Same here. I'm really looking forward to Ready Player One in IMAX.

I know it's just a few datapoints, but just perusing the e-ticketing seats/showing at the 3 local Studio Movie Grill locations, "Red Sparrow" seats are not selling at all. Black Panther is still drawing the crowds.

The Northeast got hit with some hard weather yesterday and is still feeling the effects today. I spent the night “sleeping” on two chairs pushed together at my lab/office buildingin the Poconos.

I’m functioning on minimal sleep, so I haven’t had the chance to look at how much, if at all, the Boxoffice has been has been affected this weekend. Any thoughts?
