I just bought the Onkyo 706 from One Call for $536 and I love it. It was easy to set up and the speaker calibration worked great. The distance measurements were right on. I run my HD DVD and DirecTV HD signals via HDMI 1.3 and I had zero problems setting it up. THEN, I kept noticing a momentary...
I appreciate all the inputs. I figured there might be one or two standouts blu-ray discs that could show off the latest technologies. I've just upgraded my whole system and would like to have a few kick butt movies to show off my new Onkyo 706 and Samsung LN52A850 LCD. I wonder what Ron Epstein...
I own a new Samsung LN52A850 with a new Onkyo 706 receiver and Toshiba HD DVD Player(Sorry, I picked wrong). I connect via 1.3 HDMI and component as a backup. I have a matched set of Infinity 5.1 speakers anchored with the Infinity Alpha 50's. I may add the 2 side speakers soon for 7.1. I want...

As far as I can tell the main improvement to the Onkyo 06 series is the conversion from all sources to HDMI 1080p. I think I am probably going to buy the 706. I found it on sale for $529 which is a huge savings over $899 msrp. I'll let you know how it all turns out.
On another thread we settled on Onkyo as the best receiver, with the 606 as a very nice unit. Then I looked at the 705 and then the 805. Now, I've waffled again! I just realized the Onkyo 806 does upconversion to 1080p from all sources, not just HDMI. I love the audio but the videophile in me...
I've waffled again! Now I realize the Onkyo 806 does upconversion to 1080p from all sources, not just HDMI. I love the audio but the videophile in me tends to rule. I really dig the truly dynamic picture that leaps off the screen. Do you think the 806 is worth the extra money.
Thanks everyone. In my case I don't have a turntable anymore so that doesn't matter. From the posts I presume we are down to the Onkyo 606 or 706 and the Yamaha 663. The 606 and 663 appear to be out there for from $350 to $375 and the 706 is about $200 more. It doesn't appear the 706 is worth...
I'm driving Infinity Alphas with a matched Infinity center speaker and subwoofer. The main room is about 15 ft wide by 20ft long. I mainly use Directv DVR and watch only HD, I am getting the Sony Blu-Ray player, and will use the Wii. I only think I have 2 HDMI right now but could grow...
I am struggling over which receiver to get to replace my old Harmon-Kardin av receiver. I am getting a new HD TV(either the Sony 52XBR6 or the Samsung 750) and would like to upgrade to a HDMI capable receiver to upgrade the system. I currently have 5:1 and do not plan to go to the 7:1 but I...
I own the Sony KP-53HS10 RPTV. I am converting from Directv DBS to HD DirecTV. I also have a Progressive Scan DVD that I now have connected via RGB to Video 5. As the book states, my HD TV must connect thru Video 5, so I have to move my DVD to another Video port. How do I connect so I can still...
I have a 5 year old Sony 53HS10 HD Ready RPTv. It has 2 component inputs and 4 S-video, but only 1 Component input is for digital (480p or HD). Is there a switch so I could still get good progressive scan DVD and also get HD Tivo added with my DirecTV? It looks like I would have to either...
I am thinking about getting a higher end DVD player. I was looking at the Samsung DVD-HD931 DVD Player but I only have an HD Ready Sony 53inch RPTV. Can I still getthe 720P or 1080i quality picture through tv set? Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks for a great forum!
I have had directv for 5 years and have momentarily lost the signal but it is very rare. We took a direct hit from Hurricane Isabel, last year and never lost the signal except for one 10 minute period during the 8 hours of high wionds and torrential downpour. We used to lose cable a lot more...

Thnaks everyone. I went out today to shop for my new DVD player and took along the list from here. the only one I found was the Pioneer 563 so I bought it. Sofar so good. I am not blown away by the picture but it looks pretty good. The multi format audio is excellent. Did I do wrong?
Sony DVD Player Freezes and then Skips channels very badly. I have tried cleaning the lens and nothing works. Sony wants a bundle to repair and I'm looking to buy a new one if I cannot get it to work. Any suggestions on what I can do to fix it or should I dump it? Thanks. /s/ Floyd
My Sony player is skipping badly and I am going to buy a new Progressive Scan player but need to stay in the $400 or below range. What is the best one for the money with good features? Thanks
Does anyone have a read on the Infinity Alpha 50? I know they are a folow-on to the RS and Interlude, but they seem to have an excellent sound and much better quality. Any opinions out there? /s/ Floyd
I have had my NS700P Progressive Scan DVD for a year and it has worked wonderfully until a couple of weeks ago. Now, sometimes when it is changing tracks it freezes and then skips to a different track, usually an older one. This is very annoying when you are watching a movie. Is there a fix for...
