Sony NS700P Problem (1 Viewer)

I have had my NS700P Progressive Scan DVD for a year and it has worked wonderfully until a couple of weeks ago. Now, sometimes when it is changing tracks it freezes and then skips to a different track, usually an older one. This is very annoying when you are watching a movie. Is there a fix for this, any suggestions, might it be a software problem like I had with my old Toshiba 2 years ago? Will Sony update without their $175 flat rate charge?
Should I buy a new DVD...which one!

Where you watching "We Were Soldiers" by any chance? Because if you were, that happened to my dvd player (NS700P too. Have you tried cleaning the optical lens? If you already did, then I guess it's time to buy a new one.
