Have you seen a Bose displayed along other speakers with a switch board? Probably not either. You have to pay for that shelf space. And Retailers are not in the business of comparison testing, they are in the business of selling you what ever you've seen the commercial for or read the advertisement. If you've heard awesome reviews about HD DVD, the retailer doesnt want to show you an alternative because you might just leave the store to do more "research". Instead, they will take you the HD DVD display, you will be blown away out goes the credit card.

You are shown options when you dont know what you are looking for. If you come in and say where's the Sony TV's you'll most likely be shown only Sony TVs. If you come in and say, what's a good TV, then you will be shown the the models which gives the sales person the most commission. Not matter what you buy, you will be given the "cable speech about the 10% rule" and the "extended warranty" offer.

IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH "LOOSING MONEY". It has every thing to do with a quick sales. You want HD DVD, you got it. You want Blu Ray, here it is. You want to ask questions, I get no sale.

The closest comparison Circuit City use to do was compare the VHS version against the DVD version on a Sony TV split screen. The comparison was interesting enough but that was VHS put up agains DVD. The closest thing I've seen in J&R is one GE t.v. and the both machines next to it. The salesperson has to disconnect one of the machines to show the other.
