This year is looking to be a great year for my DVD collection. The Star Wars OT has just been announced, and Schindler's List and City Lights are just around the corner.

However, several "must have" unannounced titles are still missing from my collection, and it appears that it will remain that way for quite some time. These are:

King Kong (the original)
Suspicion
Dial M for Murder
September 11

As far as I know, no dates have been announced yet for any of the above. (Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, please!)

Anyway, what unannounced "must have" titles are missing from your collection?

Well, I'm pretty sure there's already some threads about this, but I'll bite.

Here's a few:

Call Northside 777 (1948)
Easter Parade (1948)
Ziegfeld Follies (1946)
Angel and the Badman (1947)
Body Snatcher, The (1945)
Sergeant York (1941)
Return of Frank James, The (1940)
Pardon Us (1931)
Public Enemy, The (1931)
Tale of Two Cities, A (1935)
Top Hat (1935)
'G' Men (1935)
Pardon Us (1931)
Each Dawn I Die (1939)
Stranger, The (1946)
Yearling, The (1946)
General, The (1927)
Streetcar Named Desire, A (1951)
Witness for the Prosecution (1957)
Quo Vadis? (1951)
Fort Apache (1948)
Pinocchio (1940)
Torrid Zone (1940)
You Can't Cheat an Honest Man (1939)
Forty-Ninth Parallel (1941)
Tobacco Road (1941)
Mortal Storm, The (1940)
Kiss of Death (1947)
No Highway in the Sky (1951)

I could make this list much much longer. Needless to say the chances of getting everything I want are slim and none. And slim just left town as they say.

Well believe it or not now that Star Wars is coming, the things at the very top of my list are WrestleMania's I-XIV on DVD.

I'm not a real film historian so I can't think of anything off the top of my head that isn't already out, but I can think of some stuff that is already out that I'd like to have redone, but that's a different question.

Isn't Pinocchio 1940 on DVD already?

I was thinking more of titles that have never been released on DVD. I know the original King Kong has been available for quite some time in other regions, but AFAIK, it hasn't been officially announced yet for Region 1 (or at least, no official release date has been set yet).

This also disqualifies movies that are already available but long overdue for re-release (example: Titanic, which is currently not enhanced for 16:9 widescreen TVs).

Speaking of Pinocchio, I just thought of another Disney title that has not been announced yet (as far as I know): Bambi (1942).

Any others?

THE DEVILS
THE DOUBLE LIFE OF VERONIQUE
THE GENERAL (JOHN BOORMAN)

THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN
THE INNOCENTS
THE LONG DAY CLOSES

You probably already know this, but various rumours have cited the following for release in 2004 -

BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK (almost definite)
KING KONG
PAT GARRET AND BILLY THE KID (as part of Peckinpah collection ?)
HIGH ANXIETY (as part of Mel Brooks collection)

Fox's upcoming Noir collection may address some of these as well.
And isn't STRAY DOG either out or coming soon from Criterion ?

Also, FWIW, these are available in R2 UK -

SUSPICION (one of Universal's Hitchcock discs)
A FISTFUL OF DYNAMITE (bare-bones, MGM)
WITCHFINDER GENERAL (with doc)
BRINGING UP BABY (as part of Cary Grant collection)
TWINS OF EVIL
HOLIDAY

So - with the exception of WG - all should appear in R1 soon.
