My sister is looking to get into DVD.

What entry level DVD player would be best for her?

She is looking for something in the under $220 Retail Store Price.

What players should she consider and which ones should she avoid at all costs?

Which models and/or makes have or had problems with any disc playback?

Nothing fancy but something easy to operate, set-up and with no known problems.

Any help would be appreciated.

Douglas,

I've been happy with my Panasonic RA60 so far. If she isn't in need of a progressive scan devices and would like to play around with DVD-Audio I'd recommend this unit. If she doesn't want either DVD-Audio or Progressive scan then you might want to look into the RA31k (something like that), but I've got no experience with this unit at all. In general from what I've read about the JVC players I would stay away from them. A mid-line sony may work well for you too, but again I've got no personal experience with them. I had a Sony 300 Disc DVD changer previous to this Panny and was more than happy with it and it's quality (I got rid of it because I wanted to jump into SACD and DVD-Audio). Previous to the sony I had a Philips unit that gave me about 3 years of good service but recently started not reading discs (A second player for me) at random.

Good luck,
Aaron
