First off, I hope this is most relevant to this thread group.

I am in the process of building my HT and am close to closing the walls into forever darkness. I will have my HD monitor on the center wall and my receiver and dvd on the right side wall about 15 feet away from the monitor. I need to run the correct cables through the wall before the walls are closed up or else I'm SOL.

Here is what I projected. I will need to run a component cable from the TV to the receiver, and a component from the receiver to the DVD for watching movies. Then a set of audio interconnects from the TV to the receiver for normal TV use. My new reciever will have OSD, which I have never used. Will the component cable from the receiver to the TV display the OSD for the receiver?

Please let me know if there is anything I should know, or anything I have missed. Thank you all so much for your outstanding knowledge.

1. IT depends on the receiver.. Some do display the OSD thru the Component outs some dont'. Make sure yours does. If so then you are GTG.

If that is the case then you'll need 2 sets of component cables and 1 set of analog interconnects.

2. I would try your best to avoid hooking up your dvd player's video thru the receiver as it can degrade the signal. I don't care if they pass thru rating is 100mhz, I don't trust the fact something else is in the chain between your display and dvd player. This also is cheaper as you only have to get 1 set of component cables.

For long runs and a large HD set, I would go with a custom cable house or someplace like Bettercables.

Thanks Shane.

So I should run a component cable from the HD set to the DVD, AND one from the TV to the Receiver? (if the receiver allows) So one input on the TV would be for the receiver and the 480p would be for the DVD? I plan on getting the Marantz SR7300, know anything about that?

Joshua,
That's what I would do. I don't know if the Marantz allows OSD thru component so you should ask this in the hardware forum.
