Well, since my positive loyalty to a new show seems to always be proportional to how quickly it will be canceled, I have grown cautious about getting attached to anything. Plus, this year just doesn't sound very promising. Only three I will give a look:

Lost
Veronica Mars
Life as We Know It

The last one sounds especially promising as it has former Freaks and Geeks writers attached to it. Of course this is probably a sign it won't last the season, alas. Interesting article about VM and LaWKI at:
http://www.villagevoice.com/issues/0435/tv.php

Plus, I'll continue to watch:

Alias
American Dreams
College Football
Baseball playoffs/WS

And apparently I missed the best thing on TV last year in Arrested Development, so I'll give it a try this time round.

Given the above, am I missing anything else?

Wow...okay I thought my list of shows was alot, but after seeing some of yours I think I may not be as into tv as I thought, lol.

I'm amazed that alot of you watch tv almost every night and watch about 2 hours each night. How do you keep up with all those shows? Do you ever get burnt out? I have a hard time keeping up with network tv. There are alot of shows I would like to watch but I always forget when they are on or I have other things going on and forget to watch.

How do you all do it and do you do anything while you are watching tv or are you just couching the whole time? For me, I have to do something or I get antsy. I'll either sew or fold laundry or something....unless it's ALIAS, then I have to just sit and watch.

Wow, it looks like some people wont be leaving their houses with all that TV on the lists.

For me, Arrested Development, Smallville, Nip Tuck, Scrubs and OC. Oh and of course Farscape: Peacekeeper Wars.
There isnt much else that hasnt been cancelled is there?
Of the new shows, I will check out Lost and Desperate Houswives and a lot of DVDs since most of the stuff on TV are the reality shows.

Well, I timeshift everything, so I can cut about 20% of the runtime out via cutting commercials. I don't watch reruns ever, and sometimes I'll just let four hours of Joan of Arcadia (for example) build up on my Replay and then watch it while nothing else is showing new episodes.

Plus, I tend to like offbeat shows, and they've got an unfortunate attrition rate.

I have a lot on my list but the stuff I'm 'checking out' I probably won't end up sticking with many if any..

I think I'm checking out the following, but my list changes daily. The more I see and read the more I can make some informed decisions, etc.

So far...(including old shows and new ones)

Monday Night Football
North Shore (sucked last season but last night's was decent mindless entertainment)

Father of the Pride
NYPD Blue

Lost (*just read this weekend in Entertainment Weekly that Lost is voted best new Fall show!)
Nip/Tuck (I almost forgot!!!!)

West Wing
Wife Swap

OC
life as we know it

Simpsons
Desperate Housewives

My television watching has become increasingly more selective, but there have been several new shows that I've picked up so it's closer to a full line up.

Totally ignoring network/cable boundaries or even fall/summer shows:
24 (Monday?) - Liked the previous two seasons a good deal and loved the first season (which I finally saw on DVD). January is so far away!
Scrubs (Tues) - Having missed the first three seasons, I was caught up by a friend on tape. I had woefully missed this impressive series and vow to catch it actively for it's fourth season. Truly the funniest sitcom I've seen since Seinfeld
Rescue Me (Weds) - Best new show I've seen, balancing drama and comedy deftly and has a good cast. Denis Leary may finally have a good long standing project that won't get cancelled (unless I just jinxed it)
Reno 911 (Weds) - love every project The State crew gets involved with and this is their strongest and most consistently funny one to date
Survivor (Thurs) - my reality crutch
CSI (Thurs) - drama stallwart still outclasses its Miami offshoot in every way
ER (Thurs) - Still good after all the cast changes
Dead Like Me (Sun) - Couldn't be better. Excellent cast and good writing that maintains an impressive standard.
The Dead Zone (Sun) - just started watching and it's a fun diversion with some nice production values at times
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart - the best edu-tainment in the history of the world!
Various poker shows on Bravo, Fox Sports, and the Travel Channel - what can I say? It's fun to play and fun to watch.

Shows I don't think have new episodes coming for a while but still catch religiously
Monk
The 4,400 - is this going to have new episodes ever? It was a nice distraction so far

Shows to see if they make the lineup
Lost (Weds) - haven't seen the pilot, but the concept and word of mouth are encouraging. It has been a long, long time since I watched a show on ABC.
CSI:New York (Weds) - probably lives or dies on cast chemistry and hopefully they aren't as dull as Miami

Do you think Boston Legal will be good? Has it started yet?I just feel like it's set up to be bad, but hey -- I hope it's good bc I love that kind of show...

I love soapy type dramas, and mysterious nutty dramas, and fun comedies, and silly sitcoms, and a handful of reality shows...which means I have no life this fall but TV....

Great. But yeah, i think the return of the OC, and Desperate Housewives, Mountain, and Life as We Know it are my current favorites. But like I"ve prob said, it changes every week!
