Well my little complaint thread has turned into some technical talk.... 
Anyway, I played around in the service menu (no lecture, I was careful) and pretty much figured out how to do some basic adjustment for the convergence. It's way better now that it was.
I think I'm going to cancel the service call and just tweak it a little more myself when I have time.
