My wife has explicitly told me that I can buy whatever HT stuff I want, and if she ever wins the lottery, I can buy my dream system with the winnings. If she was the type that demanded I be "reduced" to a 34", the marriage would have been a no go.

Umm wow, surprised it hasnt been mentioned. No one here has an allowance? I know it sounds childish, bit it KILLS so many arguments. My wife and I have an equal allowance. She usually spends hers every month on various things and I usually buy DVDs and CDs only for quite a while, while stockpiling for a major upgrade. Basically the amount we get is not huge, but big enough that anything is realistic if you have the willpower to save your own money. It works great.
