I recently exchanged my Samsung LCD which was 720p for a 1080p LCD which will be delivered next week. I also have a Panasonic HT940 up- conversion DVD player which converts to 720p and 1080i (per the manual).
My question is, will the new 1080p LCD be compatible with the DVD player which converts to 1080i (not 1080p) or do I have to get another DVD player that converts to 1080p?

Also, are all component cables capable of receiving 1080p or do I need to get specific ones for 1080p.

Thanks all.

Hi Jay - many Upconverting DVD Players are limited to outputting 480i over component, so you may want to check what the Panny supports. I would recommend using HDMI cabling instead, to achive full 720p/1080i.

You will have no problems displaying 1080i on a 1080p set, so there is no need to purchase a 1080p upconverting DVD player.

You may want to consider purchasing the Oppo 970 or Oppo 971, these are the top rated budget Upconverting DVD players.
