This would tide me over nicely until the Criterion edition is finally completet (the film elements need some work).

I have it - it's quite decent, at least as good as the Criterion laser if memory serves.

I ordered it last week, so I should have it by monday, hopefully.

I didn't have the Criterion Laser; was it sharp, clean and colorful? I wonder what elements were used for the Japanese DVD.
