On television now: 24 wins hands down. Three other shows that are runner-ups include Family Guy, The Tick, and anything on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. I'd also include Undeclared, but I got into Buffy and started watching that.
Shows that were cancelled: Action and Freaks and Geeks.

I would say Sliders.
Is this still on??? I remember when it vanished from Fox, like five years ago (when it really picking up steam, too.) Where'd it go to? How'd it get back?

Perhaps this is more popular than I realize, the IMO the single best show that no one seems to watch is "Judging Amy".

Judging Amy is doing well in the ratings, though it's not the kind of show that enjoys the sort of constant hype as Will and Grace or Law And Order.

Sliders moved to Sci-Fi in 1998. Supposedly even in its last season without its star, the series was still bringing in really high numbers, but Sci-Fi had overstretched itself financially and something had to get the boot...

How about "The Invisible Man" on SCI-FI. An excellent show that is about to end...prematurely.

Definitely Family Guy. This show is really one of the only shows on currently that can make me laugh. I'm a very humerous person but I get kind of sick of seeing those sitcoms recycle the same types of jokes and situations.
Other shows that have been cancelled but I wish were still around:

Mr. Show With Bob and David
Tenacious D
Upright Citizens Brigade
Strangers With Candy

Oh, and has Jackass been cancelled? I know it resides solely on shock-value, slapstick humor but it seriously leaves me on the floor when watching it.

Insomniac, I second.

I wish more people had watched That's My Bush. Probably the funniest sitcom I ever saw.

1. Family Guy

2. CSI (you are correct Richard, no one I work with watches it either!)

3. Undeclared (funny with just a touch of heart)

Seems these three keep coming up. I don't know about you folks, but I have had several invitations to become a Nielson member over the last few years. If another one comes my way I may have to take it up!

Actually, Michael, the TV area is somewhat barren, and since there is certainly room for someone to expound, I didn't think it belonged in polls.

I don't disagree, Ike. It just struck me that the thread has evolved into more of a list than a discussion. (I'm as much at fault as anyone.)
I liked what I took to be your original idea, which was to try to spread the word on some current shows that people may not be watching but should consider checking out.

Funny that people should bring up CSI in this thread. It's currently CBS' highest rated show, and number 2 of all network shows!

As for Gilmore Girls, there is excellent news. The ratings are up 54 percent this season, and they actually place higher overall (slightly) against Buffy the Vampire Slayer, their direct competition on UPN. I think this is the WB's third-highest rated show behind 7th Heaven and Smallville.

I really wish Tuesday nights would get broken up a bit more. Buffy is currently my favorite show, though I really like Undeclared and Gilmore Girls. I only wish they weren't all on at the same time. And isn't Scrubs on at the same time as well? That's doing quite well for NBC.

Yeah...umm....CSI is one of the highest rated shows on TV right now so that means tons of people watch it.

Family Guy and 24 are probably the two I'd pick for current shows. "EZ Streets" would win for me overall though. I watched it when it was first on and didn't know anyone else who had even HEARD of it. I don't think I saw an ad for it either.

It's a shame that Family Guy probably won't see next season. It's had so many bumps along the way that it isn't a surprise, but it's too bad Fox refuses to give it a good slot. I mean Thursday nights up against Friends and Survivor. You HAVE to be kidding me!

The second season of Insomniac with Dave Attell will now be on Wednesdays (begins this Wednesday) at 10:30pm after South Park. I think this change will be for the better as I keep on forgetting to tape the show on TIVO, but the few episodes I did manage to see (due to me not falling asleep) were pretty funny.
"You have all the characters you could want on Bourbon Street. The vampire, the little drunk girl, the stripper with one tooth. All you need is a midget and you got yourselves a porn movie!"

Wow, I had no idea that CSI was so high in the ratings. The majority of people I work with don't watch much TV, so I guess I shouldn't use them as the norm!

  1. The Chronicle - Very underrated and funny show on the SciFi Channnel a la X-Files meets Men In Black. I hope more people start to watch b/c SciFi is thinking of cancelling it.
  2. Primetime Glick - I'm not sure if this has a following or not but this show grows on me every time I watch it. This is definitely coming back next year from what I've read.[/list=1]
