I've had my X700 for several years and it's been just fine... so far.

So has mine. I'm very pleased to have bought such a high quality performer at such a low price.

Thanks Jim Tod. I do play CDs a lot and have a 5.1 speaker system so better audio does sound appealing to me. Does the 800 have any features missing on the 700?

It apparently will play pretty much any disc you can find. Mostly I have noticed better video and audio quality than the X700. This is paired with a newly acquired Yamaha RX-V385 5.1 amp and a Sony 90J OLED. Not sure that the X700 is missing any major features that the 800 has. I would say though that the 800 has a more substantial build than the X700. I only have a 55" display but honestly I could not be more pleased. I live in a smallish condo so much larger would probably be overwhelming.

Can anyone confirm that the Panasonic DPUB 420 and 820 will play the Hitchcock UHD discs okay?
