"The Sands of Time" is definitely hit-or-miss with a lot of people, but the "hits" are generally glowing (in my case, for example). The game really picks up towards the end. Apart from the battles (which are given an unfortunately larger place in the sequel), the only real "stopping wedge" for me was the big mirror puzzle near the end of the game, which I passed by sheer luck.

I'll say this about "Warrior Within" - it's a gorgeous game, even with its drab color pallete.
