I think Whiskeytown's Pneumonia is one of the most overlooked records of the last year. One stunningly beautiful song after another. It's even better than Stranger's Almanac. I'm also in love with Ryan Adams's Heartbreaker and Gold.

Pretty high praise for Pneumonia...giving it higher marks than Strangers Almanac, one of the best "alt-country" albums of the 90's (the best being The Jayhawks "Hollywood Town Hall" in my opinion...and my pick for THE best album of the 90's). I don't have Pneumonia but have heard quite a few songs from it. Been meaning to pick it up and will eventually. Ryan Adams has made quite a splash recently. One of the most gifted songwriters around these days. If only he could keep his "antics" to a minimum and not drink himself to death, he should continue to be a force and put out good records in one form or another for a long while.
