Which is a better one to get? (the WPC is the same) Is the 1070 the newer and better of the two? I am about to make a purchase on one of these and need a quick respond, please?? :)
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

Yes, the 1070 is the newer of the two, I think it has the 12-volt trigger input which might be handy for auto startup, haven't compared it to the RB981, but I wouldn't expect it to sound that much different.

Cheers,
Mike

Mike,

I won't expect it to sound much better...just want to make sure that 1070 is the better one of the two.

Thanks.

You'd need to listen to the two - this sort of thing is too subjective (and this thread belongs in the A/V sources forum IMO).

I have both and they are almost exactly the same amps. The 1070 is newer with the external heat sinks so the internal layout is a bit different. Both have 6 output transistors per channel, same boards and the same torroidial transformer. The 1070 lools better but there is not a real difference in performance. 2 things that may make the 1070 better is the detachable power cord (if you were to ever want to upgrade) and the 12 volt trigger. The 981 was only produced in 1997 or 1998 (I cant remember) and then the 1070 took over. I would probably get the 1070 for resale value and if you ever add additional Rotel amps it will match the newer models.
