After to two excellent seasons ROME was cancelled not for lack of popularity, not sure why? I was really looking forward to what should have been a 5 season series with the 3rd season based on Jesus, Herod the Great, Pontious Pilot, John the Baptist, The Virgin Mary and the Roman occupation of Jerusalem. Season 4 would have told the story of MASADA which happened during the Jewish revolt in 70 AD. Over 900 Jewish men, women and children committed suicide rather than face capture, torture and death at the hands of the Romans. There is a 5 hour TV limited series about MASADA, starring Peter O'Toole, that unfortunately is only available on DVD. The 5th season would have centered on the story of the destruction of Pompeii happening 8 years after MASADA in 79 AD. Kit Harrington and Kiefer Sutherland, starred in a recent movie about Pompeii. ROME is a missed opportunity to extend an excellent series into something really great. It would be easy to revise the series because each season would have different actors to play the variety of characters. That will never happen ROME will just be a 2 season series.

Masada is excellent.Great acting by Peter O'Toole and Peter Strauss.And the lovely Barbara Carrera. 2 other tv minseries i have and love are Rich Man,Poor Man and Captains and Kings.
