My brother has a pair of Polk MOnitor 7s that were new in 1977 or '78. The rubber surrounds on the mid-woofer and PR are going. I know that foam surrounds can be replaced, but what about the rubber on these things. I would imagine that replacing the drivers/PRs might be just as expensive as buying new speakers. My brother is not an audiophile. He inheirited the Polks from my mother.

Although sometimes called 'refoaming', there's no difference in the process of replacing the surround on driver with butyl vs foam.

You'll need to check with some of the companies to see if the cost is worth it.
