Disney's Beauty and the Beast features a relationship between Belle and her father.

Return to Me has a wonderful grandfather-granddaughter relationship.

I'd also recommend "Bye Bye Love", although the father-daughter part of the plot is only one of several interconnected stories dealing with divorce, and how it affects three friends and their relationships to their children and their ex-wives. Paul Reiser and Eliza Dushku are great in their scenes, however.

The film's only out on VHS, so that might be a turn off.
Also on LD. I have it. :)

A few offbeat ones:

Any of several versions of Dracula—Dracula himself as the consummate father/lover in addition to the young women’s real fathers.

Bride of Frankenstein—both Frankenstein and Dr. Pretorius ought to be considered ‘fathers’.

Ordet—though this is not the film’s primary focus.

The Magic Flute—the mythical father figure.

Wild Strawberries—Bergman’s take

The Lady Eve—the father as a con man

You Can’t Take It with You—the eccentric father.

Curly Sue is one of my guilty pleasures.:emoji_thumbsup:

Here's a few where the father and daughter don't live together.

One Fine Day--with George Clooney and Michelle Pfeiffer. another guilty pleasure.

Three Men and a Little Lady--yes, they all live together but you do get three dads for the price of one movie!

What a Girl Wants--I didn't see it. the daughter tries to discover the dad she never knew. she finds out he is a rich Englishman. aren't they all?

Firestarter--the Drew Barrymore flick where she makes water in a tub burn.

Father of the Bride--I prefer the remake because Kimberly Williams is hot with a capital H, a capital O and a capital T.

O Brother Where Art Thou--George Clooney is the damn paterfamilias!

Duets--Gwyneth Paltrow and Huey Lewis sing "Cruisin'"

Meet the Parents--I didn't enjoy this movie as much as others but it does seem to get funnier the more you see it.

The Wild Thornberry's Movie--features the Paul Simon song "Father and Daughter" even though the animation style was done on crack cocaine.

Footloose--Touching sub-plot between the town preacher and his slutty daughter.

Hardcore--Kidding of course.:D But it is about a father who quit everything to look for his missing daughter...who is lost in the underbelly of porn.

How on earth did I not think of Fiddler on the Roof? That is a definite.

Did you know I'll Do Anything was actually shot as a musical and then changed? It shows. You can just feel the characters preparing to burst into song. It is very weird.

Sorry to repeat myself, but I can't recommend My First Mister (thanks to Rain for the referral) enough. It is rated R for language, but definitely warrants being seen.

I've got to second Contact ; a beautiful and heart-breaking relationship, and I would like to add

Man in the Moon ...

Reese Witherspoon and Sam Waterston have some nice moments, especially in the middle (in a truck), then toward the end (in the boat)... it's one of my favorite "little" movies, almost as good as Searching for Bobby Fischer .

This may be a stretch, but....

Muriels Wedding

Father/daughter isn't really the main plot, but a good subtext to the story.

My Fair Lady and Pygmalion may be sort of what you're looking for - Alfred P. Doolittle, a common dustman.

Fassbinder's Chinese Roulette

Bergman's Through A Glass Darkly

Miyazaki's My Neighbor Totoro

Bend It Like Beckham

Broken Blossoms
