Early-mid 90s:

- Self contained episodes, typically mystery and intrigue.

- Same main cast, but with different roles each time i.e. the priest in one episode is a janitor in the next.

- Two episodes that I remember: 1- The wife of a politician is blackmailed by someone who found out she used to be a porn actress. 2- A series of events lead to some guy's murder. Turns out his wide AND mistress worked together to make that happen.

I saw this some 13 years ago in a another country. It was quite short-lived, not more than a season. Perhaps more was produced, but that's all that was broadcast back there.

I hope this rekindles some memory....

Hello,

Could the series that you're describing be "The Pretender"? Starring Michael T Weiss. A great series. Season 1 is already out on DVD. However, this was a 4-season series so it might not be the one that you're trying to locate. The series did feature "Jarod" (Michael Weiss) in a different character role each episode.

The description sounds a bit like Stephen J. Cannell's excellent "Scene Of The Crime", which was once part of the CBS "Crimetime After Primetime" lineup here in the US (along with, among other things, the early pre-USA-Network "Silk Stalkings").

Did the episodes by any chance have a host (Cannell) offering an introduction to each story (like Rod Serling did with "Twilight Zone")?

See if this info at TVTome sounds like your show:

And, here's the very bare-bones IMDB entry:

And an administrator's work is never done ;)

To be fair, at least he did put it into the TV DVD section, probably thinking that it might be out on DVD already.

(Hmmm, should this response now go into the "Feedback" section? :D )

Well Jack... umm... what had happened was... erm... well... :b

Linda,

You are the bomb. The bomb is YOU.

I googled every name in the cast until I recognized Stephen McHattie. He was my favorite actor in the show.

Scene of the Crime it is then. Weird that this series has stuck to my mind all these years. I saw it french, but that doesn't mean anything wrt it's canadian origins, since most american shows are dubbed in french as well.

I can see that the series was short lived as I suspected. Too bad, I thought having the same cast play different characters in each ep was an awesome concept. I remember the stories were really innovative as well, but then again I was a teenager back then. It would be nice to revisit it, but that's not gonna happen...

Jeff, I have seen an ep of the Pretender here and there. Not a bad show.

Glad to be of help! :)

Nice to know that somebody else appreciated this lost gem of a show. The "repertory" cast was excellent, and the storylines always gave them a nice workout from week to week.

I would absolutely LOVE for this one to someday make it to DVD, but I'm not holding my breath...
