If I may ask a quick question:
I've been seeing that with atmos, the rendering is object based (as opposed to channel based? I'm really just repeating what I think I read, without understanding much here).

Is this true ?

And if it is, then it would follow that a monopole is more appropriate than a bi/dipole speaker as a rear channel speaker ?
Is this correct ?

Thank you

Okay, I'll try asking the question here. I just bought 2 Polk v60s for my in-ceiling Atmos speakers, do I need the grilles on them?

Grills are generally for aesthetics and speaker protection. Not for acoustic quality.

So, it’s up to you. They’re not necessary.

Well, I painted them this afternoon and I'll install them tomorrow. The magnet doesn't work very well, so I'm going to use small bits of Velcro.

Painted, hung and they look great. Hopefully by the 25th I'll have my Atmos connected to my new receiver. I have about 22 Atmos movies and can't wait to hear them!

Installed my new Denon AVR x4300H and tried them out. They sound good, but soon i'll be doing a audio calibration and then they will really shine. Listened to some Youtube Atmos videos ad can't wait to calibtrate and hear them again.

HT is done and now to spend the time to enjoy my movie collection.

Well, it says that it's a demonstration of Atmos and it's has sound. All my speakers including my in-ceiling are showing on my receiver (7.1.2).

This is the video.

Ill try to remember and give this a shot, but my understanding was that YouTube didn’t support anything beyond stereo through Windows playback. But I could well be wrong on this.

Sure that your denon settings isn’t doing that? Is the display showing Atmos or just the speakers that are sounding out sound.

Does the Receiver display “Atmos”? Unless you’re doing decoding and bitstreaming from your PC, then it would say Atmos if it’s in that mode.

Contra, the receiver will up-convert inputs to all speakers in one of the standard modes.
