I'm going to get them a reciever and they already have a DVD player. My dad just got a new 53" Sony TV and he'd like to have 5.1 surround, and also to have those speakers sound better than the TV speakers. Any recommendations in the $600 range? Should include 5 speakers and a powered Sub.

Thanks in advance!

Fluance or Onkyo systems would work (fluance available on their website, Onkyo at Circuit City or refurbished on Onkyo's website, shoponkyo.com). Infinity and JBL (although the JBL sets may be discontinued now) also offer affordable sets.

I would go either NSP1 + Adire Rava or Fluance SX-HTB and Adire Rava if you can go over $600 slightly.

JBL NSP1II and Dayton 10" powered subwoofer from Parts Express will put your folks below budget with big sound and great performance.
