i have space limitations that is why i have to get a bookshelf speaker that is 11.5-12.5 inches tall

i will start with 2 bookshelfs and a center and later add sub and rears

i watch movies, and listen to all types of music house, rap, some rock but mostly house and rap

i like the kef q100 or b&w 586 or the klipsch rb51 II what would you guys recommend? i can obtain these used for roughly same price

I would personally take the Q100. But, how big your room is and AVR in use might dictate the Klipsch. The Klipsch are much more efficient. If horn loaded, for you, isn't harsh.

You can't get much more different than those three.

It's like trying to decide if you want ice cream, pie or cookies for dessert.

the room is 15x20 couch will be about 17-18 ft away from tv-speakers

im sure some sound better for rap/house vs jazz or classical music

why the q100?

An accurate speaker is accurate, period. The music you play has nothing to with it.

Sure, there are those that prefer silk domes. Those that prefer metal. Even more that prefer ribbon/planer.

By the way...an EQ'd flat Q100 still won't sound like an EQ'd flat 586.

Why a Q100?

I like KEF. Just like, when I have a choice, I buy a stick shift car.

About the room.

Why are you all the way back? Proper 5.1(more so 7.1) dictates your seating at 60% the distance...or 12-ish feet.
