- Ronald Epstein
Bought my iPad the first weekend it was out. I remember
coming to work (I work in a large facility) and it was all over
the building that "Ron Epstein has an iPad." Everybody was
stopping in my office asking to take a look.
I remember showing it to a few of the women up in the front
office. One of them exclaimed, "Ron, that iPad is going to
attract women just as if you owned a puppy."
Well....not quite....but it did lead to an interesting flight.
Today was the first time I brought my iPad on a cross-country
flight. I loaded it up with a few films that I converted to MP4.
So, I am sitting in an aisle seat with my iPad watching
a movie. I must say, the picture quality was outstanding.
Looking around, I saw people peering at me from seats
beside and behind. It was if I was holding something
rather magical in my seat.
Next thing I know the flight attendant is tapping on my
shoulder.
"Excuse me," he says, "Do you work for Apple?" He
must have noticed the Apple logo polo I was wearing.
"No" I replied, "I just bought the shirt at their Cupertino
Store."
The flight attendant was enamored with my iPad.
"Oh, I am a big Apple fan and I was thinking of buying
a new Macbook Pro or the iPad. How do you like the
iPad? The screen is so beautiful."
I went on to explain to him all the cool things the
iPad does. Even gave it to him to hold and try for
himself.
"Can I get you anything from First Class?" he asked.
I said no thanks. "We just heated up cookies I can
get you some." I again declined because I didn't want
to piss off the other coach passengers around me by
having the flight attendant serve me food out of first class.
The attendant stopped by again several times to
admire the iPad. We talked a little more about Apple
and the business he was trying to start. At one point
I got on line to go to the bathroom at the back of the
plane and he came up to me asking if I wanted to use
the bathroom in First Class. I again declined. No sense
doing that kind of stuff in front of people in coach.
It was just rather interesting how my iPad got me
all these perk offerings on a Continental flight. Wish
the flight attendant was female as it would have made
the situation more interesting, but it was kind of cool
nonetheless that my iPad attracted that kind of attention.
BTW, after years of having to take out a heavy laptop
to watch a movie on a plane, you have no idea what it's
like to have a lightweight player like the iPad that you can
watch 3 films and still have plenty of battery power left.
