I'm getting conflicting information regarding the dvd release of the 1935 classic "Barbary Coast" directed by Howard Hawks and starring Edward G. Robinson, Joel McCrea, Miriam Hopkins, and Walter Brennan. Some sites are listing an October 15th release date while others don't have it listed it all. What's happening with this title?

I have to visit this area more often as I didn't even know this was coming out. Having enjoyed many a Hawks film, I think this one will be a blind purchase for me.

To further complicate things about the release date, Amazon gives a date of August 6, 2002, which is obviously incorrect if it's not already out.

Which sites don't list it at all, Robert? And do you happen to know what other titles MGM is releasing at the same time? Catalogue titles tend to come out in batches, don't they?

I hope that this isn't another How I Won the War, I've been waiting for that DVD for over a year.

Image nor Lasers Edge list Barbary Coast. However, the following are scheduled to be released by MGM on 10-15-02:
  • The Big Knife
  • Casino Royale
  • Exodus
  • The Hoodlum Priest
  • How to Murder Your Wife
  • The Russians Are Coming!, The Russians Are Coming!
  • The World of Henry Orient

Thanks.
Well, I'm down for The World of Henry Orient at least...
By the way, I wouldn't worry that Barbary Coast isn't listed on the Image page. I seem to recall previously that there was a title I couldn't find on that site, but it came out as planned anyway.

As in altogether or just postponed to a later undetermined date?
I really wish studios wouldn't announce titles until they are SURE they are going to be released.

Interesting... MGM did a similar official-announcement-then-unexplained-cancellation over a year ago, with the classic Gary Cooper western THE WESTERNER (1940). Both THE WESTERNER and BARBARY COAST are from the Goldwyn library that MGM acquired, but then, other Goldwyn titles have been successfully released on DVD by MGM, such as THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES and PRIDE OF THE YANKEES. I hope THIEF OF BAGDAD (1940) isn't similarly cancelled by MGM, although I suspect it won't be.
Still waiting for THE WESTERNER, though, whenever that day comes (BARBARY COAST, too). :frowning:
