I looked here:

and found that it is available on anamorphic Widescreen... This version will play correctly, right?

The US region 1 disc is not anamorphic.

This is a movie that is sorely in need of a new transfer and a reissue with special edition treatment. The current disc is a DVD-10 with the fullscreen on one side and widescreen 4:3 letterbox on the other. There's visible compression artifacts and overall digital nastiness.
