Is it necessary to paint the room? (1 Viewer)

I'm putting a projector system into our basement, which has total control over ambient light. Right now the walls are a very neutral and light color.

Before having the wiring done, should I paint the walls a dark color? Apart from room aesthetics, do light walls affect picture quality/projector performance if a proper screen is mounted?

The projector is a Hitachi Home-1 LCD.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, it makes a difference. I don't think it's necessary to go with a completely black room, but darker colors (particularly on the ceiling and on/near the screen wall) really cuts down on reflections. As to how much it affects picture quality/performance, that depends on the projector and is largely subjective.

Chad is right on the money!!! The picture will look so much better, and colors will also be improved. I noticed a big difference after I painted the walls and masked my screen.
