Interesting, a couple of replies shot me down the other day when I suggested a mophie to someone...

cases I could get.

If you don't mind bulky cases, then I would never talk

I'm a bit of a computer clutz
so I hope it wont be too much trouble getting the music onto this phone.
I never could figure out smart playlists.

The fastest and easiest way to get your music files on the phone is to plug the microSD card directly into your PC using a USB adapter. Then it's just drag and drop.Pop the card back into your phone and it will pick up the files.

Everybody's use case is different. For instance, I don't listen to music on my PC. If I want to listen to music, I use my phone. So syncing between the two is of little concern to me. After the first big music dump, I just copy the mp3 files wirelessly over network share if I rip a new CD. I can copy an entire album over wifi in a minute or two.

Tony,

How are you and your wife liking that MB Air?
Was the SSD drive as great as we suggested?

Also, I posted instructions in the Mobile Area how to
pull music off your Mac to your Android. Pretty simple.

If you want to do it automated, you can spend $2 on
an app called iSync which works great.

Yes I saw that Ron, very helpful.
We like the Air very much.
Its a tad annoying to have to plug in a disc drive and the external each time I
need to add music to it but otherwise no issues.
Also very fast.

BY add music I mean pop a cd in to load into itunes.
Probably 95% of the songs I have are taken right from the cds that i own.
Thats why, to me, Google music choking on 60% of that makes no sense to me/

I am all in on this Galaxy G3!! I've had every iPhone since inception and I'm just sick of the same old OS..
Screen size is just incredible on the G3.
What converted me though was the ability to completely customize your desktops. My pages or home screens are now extensions of my daily life. I have what I want on there, not what Apple dictates. Customization is truly remarkable on this device. Yes there is jail breaking on the other phone but heck, and who wants to go there...

Here's a funny story about Ronbo having to have his cases....
Go back 8 years ago, I get off a plane at LAX airport and I'm walking through the terminal and I come upon an escalator going down to the baggage claim area. I feel my brand new Motorola Razor ringing and who is on the phone? No other than Peter Staddon from Fox Home Video. I hand the phone to Ron at the very top of the escalator and what happens?
He drops it, and what felt like slow motion, the phone smashes its way down a good 100 feet down and cracks into 15 different pieces.... I had no case on the phone, but did have insurance thank god.
:)

Yes, I remember that accidental death of a cell phone.

Tony - Here's the tutorial I used for rooting my phone. Ridiculously easy to do. I watched the video first, then followed along while watching the video again. Easy, safe, painless.

Wanted to get in here earlier to talk more about my experiences with
rooting. Glad Paul provided a video.

Yes, there is something called "rooting" which is the Android version
of "jailbreaking."

I rooted my phone within a day of owning it -- fairly easy to do -- but
since doing it, I am kind of wondering if I really needed to do it.

You see, people jailbreak their iPhone because Apple doesn't allow
tweaking. You really can't customize iOS nor enhance it with cool
functionality unless you jailbreak it.

On Android, out of the box you can.

What I have been able to do since rooting my phone is add a CPU
accelerator program and an app that fools the phone into using another
country's PLAY STORE for software not available here.

....but that's about it....and the CPU accelerator is just another
function that drains battery life.

In my opinion, "rooting" is a stepping stone to installing custom
ROMS which is usually the next thing people do once they root
their phone.

These ROMS are designed by ordinary people. They basically
are custom tweaks that remove all the carrier's bloatware, give
the phone better battery life, and run the latest operating system
not yet available to the public.

Personally, I have avoided installing ROMS as it does come
with a slight risk of bricking the phone. You can also get a ROM
that makes your phone better in some ways, but buggy in others.

I rooted my phone because I thought it would be an easy way to get rid of the ATT logo boot screen (it's bright, and loud) but I still can't find a way to do it. You also can't uninstall some bloatware by rooting alone, ATT Navigator, for example.

The same website I mentioned above has a custom rom which is essentially the stock ROM with a few enhancements, and a few things removed. I'm thinking of giving that a try but I need to investigate some of the more popular roms available as well and see what their benefits are.

Paul,

Keep us updated on your ROM experimenting.

It's something I am a bit afraid to pursue, but perhaps after a few
members here have success with it, I'll be inclined to try it....

...maybe even start a ROM thread with links and tutorials.

If anyone needs assistance with ROM's or custom flashes, i've been a member of the XDA scene since the Droid 1. My GS3 is running AOKP right now, but i've also flashed several others. Happy to help as needed.
Also, on the subject of cases for the GS3 - I can't recommend the case I purchased enough. It's durable and very low bulk: http://www.rearthusa.com/galaxy_s3_slim_lite_kit# (cheaper on Amazon)
If you happen to be searching for a screen protector, this is by far the best one I've found: http://www.spigen.com/samsung-galaxy-s3-screen-protector-steinheil-curved-crystal.html
It feels just like the real screen, so no sticky feeling on touch, and the responsiveness is the same as stock.

Dave,

Thanks for this information.

You and I will need to talk further at the LA meet
about ROMS. You probably will be able to twist my
arm into trying it.
