Ok I know the topic sounds really funny but heres my predicament. My wife and I just moved 55 miles away from everything we know. At this points are closest friends are more than 20 miles a way so makes it much more difficult to hang out etc. I'm wondering what are some good ways to meet decent people?? I work weird hours 11:45am - 8:15pm M-F. My wife currently is looking for a job. Neither of us are really into the bar/club scene and really you dont meet very many decent people in those scenes, Seattle tends to be a pretty boring town as far as event's etc. I'm just looking for ideas, we tried online but all you find is people looking for sex/relationships. Whatever happened to online personals where you could search for people couples wanting to get together to just hang out etc, or for excercise partners??? Ok this is a really stupid rant and makes me sound like I've got no social skills but its not like when you're a teenager and you can befriend just about anyone you see.

Back before we had children my wife and I had time for friends. Sigh. Most have moved away, though we keep in tough with a few.

Co-workers are always a good choice. Also, anyplace where you can have fun. The gym - karioki - church - join the local young republicans/democrats - the Jaycees are great, chamber of commerce too. Any non-profit.

Good luck!

BTW - 50 miles aing THAT far!

sorry I DJ'd for almost 3 years professionaly in a local club up here and used to be into the club scene quite extensively here and its mainly dive places here in Washington. I dont mean that as a stereotype just personal experiences I've had.

Join hobbyist clubs like motorcyclist, running, etc. clubs. Get involved in your community through church or a local association.

Second what Philip said. Find a club that does something y'all like, you'll meet folks that way.

Hey Jeremy, I know how it is in Seattle, being a 20-something (albeit a single one). I'm down in Renton, and have been in the area most of my life. I posted a thread a while ago about making friends being 25+ years old and got some good replies...do a search if you like.

I don't know if we'd have much in common, with me being a bachelor, but if you host a HT party...I'll bring the popcorn :)

Same thing for me for several of my friends, but this is only about a 15-20 minute drive for me and my friends.....that's too far for you and your closest friends?

Assuming that he lives in Everett and his friends are down south towards Seattle, that 20 mile drive can often take well over an hour. The traffic around here really sucks (and they will probably never fix it).

yeah oue closest friends are in Seattle and finishing up college this is there last year so once this summer comes around they'll be able to hang out a little more often. I've wanted to host a HT get together right now though still kind of unpacking etc but hopefully within the next month or so.

ACK Seattle to Everett. Or basically anywhere to anywhere around here blows. You might try craigslist.com I met someone there trying to find people to form a volleyball team with. Turns out I couldn't play, but I still talk to her on occasion.

Where did you DJ if you don't mind me asking? Around here?

At anyrate it was Country on one side and then top40/techno on the other (weird combo I know) I DJ'd on the top40/techno side. Though it really wasnt much top forty mainly hi nrg dance/trance/breakbeat/etc. The guy that owned my club owned club FX to in Seattle. Its been around 3 years now since I did that.

Hey, don't talk bad about my commute! Marysville to Redmond, baby!!!

Making new friends is tough - I'm either working, or spending time with current friends. Being newly single, I should probably get out and meet some more single people my age.

Like Chris said, If you host the meet, we will come!

What's in Marysville Jared? An ex? Between the 3 of us we got the whole Puget Sound covered. Too bad it's such a pain to get around.

Jeremy, I've never been to Dakota's but I always seem to hear people talk about it. I'm usually in Seattle if I'm out drinking/dancing.
