Help with DVD picture (1 Viewer)

Recently I have begun noticing alot of pixels in the dark areas when watching a DVD. I own a Phillips 724 player and had never noticed this before. Is thi an issue with the player? Are there any options to correct this?

Are you saying the image is pixelating? Does this happen on every DVD you play or only with certain titles? More information needed.

It's hard to describe, but ceratin portions of the picture, usually the darker areas, are what can best be described as pixelating. This has occurred with Donnie Darko, Crouching Tiger..., and The Ring in the past week.

Can a DVD player just start doing this?

Describe a little more clearly what you're seeing. In dark scenes, do you see largish pixelated blocking artifacts? Or are you noticing, say, banding artifacts (where light-to-dark transitions aren't smooth but instead are in banded gradations)?
