My new Panny VCR can play tapes (with Audio) and record. But the recordings don't have any sound. I have a cable digital box and have essentially just replaced my old VCR with my new. I even pulled out allt he cables and tried installing it again. I think I've tried every connection possible but I still can't record with audio. Any help or is my VCR defective? What's weird is that I can play tapes back with audio but I can't record with audio.

i take it you are using the tv speakers for sound.
could the cable box be set for a digital output to your DD processor and hence no analog out to the vcr?
have you tried the modulated (ch 3 or 4 output from the vcr?
you are using the R & L output from cable box directly (line input) or are using RF cable out into vcr (tuner)?
either way... try the opposite and see if it works then
hope one of these hits the spot!
good luck!
