this movie is a chef d'oeuvre of WWII movies ( to me ). the current dvd has a soft image with not soo great color saturation and compression and an average (as good as can be some will say) dolby surround track. I saw an HD version on a digital channel and it certainly looked better than the dvd.
given the renewing interest for war movies (SPR/EATG and the coming new ones in 2001-2002), this masterpiece could do well if remastered. a nice DD 5.1 or even a DTS would be nice with a new HD telecine.
the size of this production is enormous, R.A. did one nice job! Would certainly be impossible to replicate such a large production with such a high casting.
anyway...... this post won't change a thing
