have you considered that your box is bad?

The problem would have to be limited to the HD circuitry; there's no problem with other channels, other than artifacts that are obviously caused by overcompression.

I have the Scientific Atlanta 3100HD, which is not a model that's been plagued with defects, AFAIK. I suspect that many of the problems I'm seeing have to do with the HD feeds, which, as Jason_Els noted, have been less than optimal since 9/11.
