Please excuse my ignorance. I am building a house and want to have a home theater installed in the bonus room (3 car garage size) I just wanted to try to educate myself a little before hiring a company to install it. So here is the thing what components do I need. Obviously a projector and a screen along with speakers. But I get a little confused with the other stuff. I see recievers, amps, pre amps, and processors along with agood dvd player. Do I need one of each of these components? Thanks for any help

For good quality home theater...
Display (as you stated projector/screen, 60" RPTV for me)
AVR (Audio Visual Reciever)conatins amps/processors/preamp
Speakers (5 or 6 or 7 of them)
Subwoofer (Some get away without one, but for myself gotta have it)

DVD Player for source
HDTV? (At least one Sat/cable box)

Any other device for a source you may use....
Examples,
Laserdisc Player, I still use mine a lot.
SVHS VCR, I still use mine occasionally
ect..ect..ect...

Of course on the source if you only use it for DVD, then you only need DVD.

Now these days many people setup an HTPC, which can have higher quality and the most versitility.
