DVD/CD player rec (1 Viewer)

I'm looking for suggestions for a DVD player that can also double as a high end CD player in my system without giving up much performance vs. an independent CD player.

I would like to stay under $1000, but for that price it can be used, so I would think that would put all but the most high end players into the mix.
