They say without bass management you should have full-range rear speakers. What if your mains are small (80hz). Will the sub handle the bass for the mains in DVD-Audio?

To use the 6channel 96kHz/24b advanced resolution DVD-A signal your DVD player must be DVD-A compatible. It then would send out the 6channel analog audio to your receiver. Your receivers DSP handling of bass management has now been bypassed.
To listen to 6ch DVD-A your choices are upgrade your mains and surrounds or get the Outlaw ICBM bass management box.

Any players out there that have bass management yet?

Look for Panasonic 91 reviews. They have bass management in some form for DVD-A though I think it's limited.

The Panasonic RP-91 DOES NOT have bass management for DVD-Audio according to the recent test in Sound & Vision magazine.

Correct...
My scorecard for the RP-91 is as follows from our shootout:
DD - does bass management
DTS - does bass management
CD - no bass management
DVD-A - no bass management
If you want affordable bass management, buy the Panny, and add the Outlaw Audio ICBM.

I finally received a reply from Kenwood.
The DV-5900M and DV-5700 will have a 100 Hz crossover.
Someone somewhere, I forget exactly, mentioned that some DVD-A discs do not allow downmix. I asked Kenwood if this would affect the bass management, they said it shouldn't. But asked for names of discs that had this limitation. Anyone have input on this?
