Is there any diy headphones amp kits around? I just checked the Sonic Frontiers web site and they have closed down their diy company. Any other ideas out there in cyberspace?

Try poking around Link Removed and Head-Fi - quite a few different designs out there. HeadWize also has a new project write-up, a portable DAC with headphone amp. Fun.

Im curious.

What benefits do you get with a headphone amp? I mean, you can only go so far when the driver(s) are an inch from your eardrum. But I guess its not only about how loud it goes.

Actually, I am just assuming that these amps are for "professional" headphones and may work better with more power.

Enlighten me please. Maybe I could venture this way as well.
