Hey everyone,

For the people here who watch the Real World in Chicago on MTV, I just saw Theo in Kroger about 20 minutes ago. I go to college at Auburn University in Auburn, AL, and he apparently goes to Tuskegee College which is about 20 minutes away from Auburn. Anyway, just wanted to tell you all. Its really weird seeing someone who's always on TV in Kroger, it shocked me at first.

Anyone else have any celebrity encounters?

I also met George Strait at the Kentucky Derby last year.

Did you lash out at him? I would have to restrain myself from yelling obscenities at anyone I saw in real life that has ever been on the REAL WORLD!

I'm just playin'...kinda, I just don't like that show at all!! or MTV for that matter anymore!

Now if they bring back Headbangers Ball......

The only thing I saw in Kroger were 3 little kids running wild in the aisles with super-duper grocery carts! :)

I ran into Cloris Leachman at a bar here in Milwaukee. She was doing a show at the Pabst theater across the street and came in looking for pizza.

I was waiting at an airport for small planes here in town and Dave Thomas of Wendy's fame came in and asked where the men's room was... he looked like he really had to go.

I met Kevin Smith at the MegaCon in Orlando and, a couple years ago, my parents saw Steve Guttenberg in a restaurant. I think he might have family/friends in south Florida.

Olympia Dukakis was the guest speaker at my college graduation. I got to meet her and have my pic taken with her. :D

Oh, I forgot to mention... Charleton Heston's sister and brother-in-law live in my home town: South Milwaukee... or at least they used to when I was a kid. He's been known to stop into the flower shop where my mom worked... and had been seen taking the garbage out in his robe. I never saw him.. but, if you knew South Milwaukee.. you would remember seeing anyone remotely famous in that blue collar neighborhood.

Since we're talking reality shows...

I was in the airport in Denver last year, on the train from the terminal to concourse B. When the train stopped at A, this guy gets on who looks really familiar. We make eye contact, and he does that half-hello nod, that I always associatte with recognition. So I'm racking my brain, do I know this guy from high school, college, work, mountain biking, etc. until it finally hits me. It's Greg from the first Survivor. So I start looking around the crowded train to see if anyone else notices him. Nothing, and this was only about 6 months after the show aired. I guess his 15 minutes of fame were long gone.

My best celebrity encounter though has to be with Arnold Schwarzenegar (sp). I used to work at a resort hotel in Taos NM in the tennis pro shop. A good portion of the movie Twins was filmed in and around Taos, with Arnie and Maria staying at my hotel. One day I was sitting around stringing racquets, when Arnie walks in looking for a court. After calling all my friends, we sat around and watched Arnie and his bodyguard playing tennis for an hour or so.

Cancer Man (William B. Davis) from the X-Files was in my car. He rode shotgun.

He came to my school to give a speech, and the Student Government was supposed to arrange to have him picked up. I went along to cover the story for the college newspaper. Turns out the government people were totally incompetent, and didn't even know what he looked like. So I took charge, and after we dropped him off at the hotel, I came back with my car and served as his escort the entire night. We went out to dinner afterwards, too. He's a very, very uninteresting person. Totally acted like he didn't want to be there. Some factoids: He enjoys a gin and tonic before dinner, a scotch and soda after dinner, and doesn't like chicken wings (I went to SUNY Buffalo).

You'd think the government would know what CSM looks like.
I've seen a bunch of Swedish actors and actresses in Sweden, but you guys wouldn't know who they are... except Dolph Lundgren, maybe (he was huge). :)

I was interviewing for a fellowship at Ohio State University and at lunch, Dave Thomas(Wendy's) was also there. I met former President Jimmy Carter and Rosalyn Carter when the former First Lady's mother was admitted to Emory Hospital.

My friends and I once shared an elevator ride with Lou Ferrigno (yes, he took up almost half of the elevator!) while in San Diego about 5 years ago.

I met and talked with John Unitas a few years ago while waiting for a plane at BWI airport. Sly Stallone's stunt double and body guard, Tony Mafatone lived down the street from my parents before passing away a few years ago. If you recall Rocky IV he was the Russian in the passenger seat of the Mercedes.

Well, I've never actually met any celebs, mostly because I just couldn't be bothered. They're all over this damn town like a virus though.

Speaking of which, that new Anjelina Jolie flick that looks really stupid (Life or Something Like It?) was filmed in part literally right outside of the building I work in. Everyone in our office was all a-buzz about Angelina. Whoopity-doo. I was not.

Though I tried my best to stay well away from the shooting area, can someone let me know if I happen to turn up in the background of this movie? I really hope not.

I've had many since I grew up and worked in Manhattan for many years.
The ones I have exchanged a few words with:
Winona Ryder
Alan Alda
Peter Boyle
Nick Ashford
Bill Cosby
Gary Dell'abate (Baba Booey)
Steven Tyler (met him backstage at an Aerosmith concert. Really nice dude, down to earth.
I'm sure there are some others I can't remember right now. :)

Most of my celeb sightings occurred in or around Bellevue Hospital (not because they were getting treatment -- telling y'all about that would kinda violate patient confidentiality, wouldn't it?) in the context of movie filmings. I've seen Andy Garcia poking his head out of a movie trailer in front of the hospital, Jimmy Smits and Dennis Franz filming an NYPD Blue scene in front of the ER, and met Hugh Grant and Liz Hurley (back in their together days), who were doing background research for that stinky hospital thriller Hugh did some years back with Gene Hackman (the name escapes me). Nice black leather pants on Liz....

Missed out on Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts filming for Conspiracy Theory, though some of my friends saw them. Did see Mel chowing down on some porterhouse at Peter Luger's in Brooklyn, tho.
Got Keyshawn Johnson's autograph at Virgil's BBQ a few hours after the NFL draft when he was taken #1 by the Jets.
Met Christy Turlington (

), though it doesn't really count, since it was a scheduled appearance at Macy's in NYC. Still....
My younger cousins in LA used to go to this fancy-schmancy elementary school in West Hollywood, and when I went there to see them in a school performance, I also saw some of the other proud parents there: Kurt Rambis, Magic Johnson, Robert Townsend, and Jack Nicholson (sporting a Mars Attacks! baseball cap).
