It would really work the best for me to mount the 2 surround speakers on the ceiling behind the couch.

ceiling-mounted surround VS. 4 foot tall speaker stands

Is there a noticeable difference in sound? I'm very new to this stuff, so any help is appreciated.

Thank you for reading,

i think in-ceiling speakers for the rears will be okay. the problem w/ceiling speakers is the baffle is 'unknown' -- so the sound quality won't be known until it's intstalled. obviously, by then, it could be too late.

also, they make some ceiling speakers designed specifically as surround speakers. they usually have a wide dispersion pattern, which makes sense, since rear speakers should be diffused.

The ceiling mounted speakers for rear surround will sound orders of magnitude better than stand mounted head level speakers for surround sound. If you can do that, DO IT!!!

Think of a movie theater.. Where does the rear surround come from.
