I know that the DAD format is a bit passe by today's standards (:D), but I am interested in picking up some of them. Where can the best prices be found? I am listening to the John Coltrane Blue Train DAD as I type, and I am totally immersed in the sound of this disc. I don't really want to pay $25 for them. I admit that I am spoiled by the fact that I got the Blue Train disc sealed on eBay for $11.50. I don't expect to find DADs that cheap through dealers, but can I get them for less than $25? Thanks in advance.
Along the lines of DADs, I read some opinions on Steve Hoffman's forum saying that the DAD of Muddy Waters Folk Singer sounds better than the SACD. Some folks refuted that opinion. Does anyone here have thoughts? I don't own any version of Folk Singer (not even on CD), and I want to get the best high-resolution version out there. So, should I get the DAD or the SACD?
NP: Did you read my post? ;)

Let me say that I am aware of the usual mail-order dealers such as Amazon, Digital Eyes, DVD Empire, Elusive Disc, Music Direct, Acoustic Sounds, etc., but it's been a long time since I shopped for DADs. I only have a handful of DADs, and with the exception of the Coltrane disc, all of them are Chesky discs that I bought directly from Chesky a few years ago. So, I don't know who has good prices on DADs these days.

Keith, when I want something like that I usually look at this site: http://www.bargainflix.com/. You can get price comparisons (I just did a search of 'Hobo' - Chesky DAD) and also there is a spot to search for coupons (up top) from the various sites. I just have 2 DADs, the above and one from Classic Records.

Phil, thanks for the link. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. I searched for prices on the Muddy Waters Folk Singer DAD and came up with nothing. I searched under "Muddy Waters" and "Folk Singer". Just to make sure I knew how to use the search function on this site, I did a search for the Rebecca Pidgeon Four Marys DAD and found some prices. Unfortunately, the spread was only about $3, and none of the prices listed would I consider to be a bargain. By the way, I have the Pidgeon DAD, but I searched for it out of curiosity. Anyway, DADs are still more expensive than most SACDs and DVD-Audio discs out there. :frowning:

Keith, yes - they are expensive. I was going to buy that DAD but I bought the SACD instead. Can't obviously compare it to the DAD but the "Folk Singer" SACD sounds pretty damn good. Classic Records are not carried by lots of mainstream retailers. You might want to check their site out and see if there are links within it. - Phil

Phil, thanks. I'm glad to hear you are pleased with the SACD. I can pay $25 for the DAD, but I don't like paying that much for a disc. It's a matter of principle. The SACD at $15 or so is much more inviting. However, as I said in my initial post, I read some opinions stating that the DAD sounded better. I'll probably get the SACD first and see how I like it.

Phil, thanks for the added information. I fully expected Classic Records to sell its DADs at full list. $19.50 is a great price for the disc, but the SACD is really cheap. It's been awhile since I visited cheap-cds.com but I should do that more often. :)
