As is always the case when the content of a film is brought up, there will be diametrically opposing opinions. For those that do not like the changes Coppola has made to this film, I don't think you will be happy with this new DVD, no matter how good it looks or sounds.
For those, like myself, that feel the new version of the film is better, this new DVD easily supplants the previous version.
I suppose I should hold onto my copy of the original theatrical cut. Looks like it might fetch a tidy sum on Ebay someday.

A local B&M that routinely breaks street dates is selling Redux, and unfortunately, it's barebones.

Man, if only this had been true. Hearts Of Darkness is IMO just as intriguing as the movie it is about.

Bad news, folks. Very bad news.
I asked George Hickenlooper who directed it about it.
This is really a shame. But hopefully it will be out in the future. This is one of the great documentaries, and perhaps the best documentary about films that I have seen.
Here's what he said about it:
Unfortunately, Francis Coppola is not interested in seeing Hearts of
Darkness come out any time soon. I had lengthy discussions with him
last
March about re-releasing it on video and DVD, but he now objects to
several
scenes in the film. I suggested recutting the film, and he said he
might be
open to the idea in the future. For now, the film has been yanked out
of
circulation, so do the best you can to preserve your VHS.

Yeah I'll bet he objects to "some scenes" in Hearts of Darkness. "Some scenes" that have him saying that without a doubt the "French Plantation scenes" are OUT of the picture & he will no longer even acknowledge that they ever existed!
I guess he changed his mind, eh?
Thank god for my Laser...anyone have a can of Rot be GONE!?
