    Enemy Mine DVD?

I've always enjoyed this movie, and I see the current DVD was released in 2001. Does anyone have any comments on the transfer quality?

    HD-DVD on EDTV?

As the owner of a SP4805, I'm curious...has anyone here tried their shiny new HD-DVD players on an EDTV display, be it plasma or front projection? I'd like to know if anyone's noticed any difference between HD-DVD downrezzed to EDTV and the equivalent DVD on EDTV. Thanks.

    Movie Theater Chair Mounting?

Hi all. I'm looking to purchase some movie theater style seating from http://seatsandchairs.com for my very modest theater room. The problem is, I don't want to bolt these chairs to the floor (it's a concrete slab, and I plan to sell the house in a 2-3 years). There are places on the net which...

    Lying DVD Covers!

Today, while in Target, I noticed the movie "Don Juan De Marco" for only $5.99. I already have this movie in a snapcase, it's non-anamorphic and the transfer is pretty lousy, but I think this is a cool movie (minus Bryan Adams, but we won't go there). Anyway, this particular version of "Don Juan...

    The dreaded CLV Laserdisc smear

I have two Pioneer LD players, a CLD-D704 and a CLD-D703. I'm quite happy with the video quality they display on my 43" Sony CRT RP HDTV, except for one thing: these players show "smearing" with CLV discs. Some scenes/discs are worse than others, some are barely noticeable, but it bothers me...

    Pioneer CLD-E2000 laserdisc player

Calling all lasergurus! I see these on ebay all the time, new in box for just north of $100. Understand this is an education-oriented LD player, without any digital audio out, DNR, etc...but I'm wondering how the video quality is. Would it be a decent backup player? Since they're being sold...

    New Acoustic Research?

As the proud owner of six Acoustic Research Hi-Res series speakers, I'm curious to know what the "new" AR speaker line is like. Looking at specs and pricing, the new speaker line seems to be similar to the old. Does anyone have any experience with the new speaker line? Thanks.

Bridge on the River Kwai transfer problems

I'm a bit disappointed with the transfer for this excellent film. The colors are good, blacks seem fine, but there are a few places where there is very noticeable mosquito noise, frame jitter, edge enhancement, and the image seems murky. Then there are other areas where the image is almost...

    6.1 on a 7.1 receiver?

Dumb question... On a 7.1 receiver, if I only want to hook up six speakers for DD 5.1EX and DTS 6.1, how do I do that? My understanding is that 7.1 receivers have a left back surround and a right back surround...so which does the single back surround speaker plug into?

    New production Laserdisc players

I've got a CLD-D704 as my main player and a CLD-D703 as a backup. Both are over 10 years old, and aren't getting any younger. I live in fear of the day when something craps out on one or both of them and Pioneer doesn't have the parts available to fix it. What are the odds of a new production...

New DVD of "Where Eagles Dare"?

I just picked this up the other day, and the back of the DVD keepcase says "2005" on it. My understanding is WB released this to DVD in 2002-03. I can't find anything on the net touting a new release. Regardless, the transfer seems quite good.

    DVD transfers inconsistent--why?

Here's one thing I don't understand about DVD: how can some DVD titles look absolutely perfect, whereas others will have "edge enhancement", pixelation, moire effects, jagged edges, shimmering, and other nasty problems? I mean, this is supposed to be digital video, right? Isn't there one...

    Dolby Digital Mono 1.0

All of the Dolby Digital Mono sources I have are 2.0 (Conan the Barbarian and Stand By Me DVDs are two examples) which, naturally, ouput mono sound using the two front speakers. So, if DD 2.0 Mono outputs on two speakers, DD 1.0 Mono only output on one speaker?

    Is this the "rainbow effect?"

Today when someone was giving a presentation, I could see the lens of the projector out the corner of my eye (it was rear projecting onto a screen), and I could see a distinctive color band of red, green, and blue emanating from the lens. When I looked directly at the lens though, it...

    CLD-99 vs. CLD-D703/4

Hello all. Long time lurker, first time poster. Quite a respectable forum here. I've noticed there's a few laser gurus around here. I'm mostly interested in the format for playing my Star Wars LDs and the just all around coolness of those big ol' discs. I currently have a CLD-D704 running...
