Good to see THE SWIMMER and LAST EXIT TO BROOKLYN getting so much support.

I'll second that great guilty pleasure JUST ONE OF THE GUYS (1985).

With Dudley Moore's recent passing, how about MICKI & MAUDE (1984)?

And also seconds, thirds, and fourths on Ray's APU TRILOGY. New 35mm prints of these have shown in several venues in NYC in the last couple of years. I didn't know Columbia had the rights to these.

And please release all these in OAR and don't mess with the covers so much. If ain't broke, please don't break it (a la REAL GENIUS.) At the same time, thank you for releasing REAL GENIUS.

Happy Birthday to Me
And Special Edition reissues of your two John Carpenter films:
Starman
Christine
Carpenter has already recorded a sensational commentary with Jeff Bridges for Starman, and all the material is there on the R2 release, all you need to do is bring it on over. John Carpenter has also stated that he will do commentaries for all his films if he is asked, so if you throw him a bone for Christine, he will certainly bite.
And please Columbia, OAR or nothing.
If Perfect is reissued in widescreen I will pick it up in a second. It is one of my favorite guilty pleasures.

- Please do not release films as Pan n' Scan only. 16:9 Widescreen, please!

Here's another vote for all seven of the Boetticher/Scott Westerns -- as previously mentioned, these would make a fine and appropriate legacy for the recently-departed Boetticher.

Also, as others have mentioned: 'The Swimmer', 'In a Lonely Place', and 'You Can't Take it With You'.

Thanks for listening.

Hey guys,

Please keep the suggestions coming over the weekend, and I'll forward them to CTHE on Monday afternoon. Think unreleased back catalog titles, more recent titles that have gotten less than stellar treatment and titles that may deserve true special edition treatment that haven't gotten it yet.

Thanks!

Walt Riarson, I hate to bear bad news, but it must be repeated:

"The Monster Squad" is soon to be a Paramount title. It's one of Viacom's Taft Entertainment titles (the others being the aforementioned "Light Of Day" and the issued-by-Artisan "The Running Man").

Sincerely,

John "You're better off asking Paramount then" Kilduff

The Big Picture
Which, Last year at the L.A. Meet, I was told this was coming out in late 2002 as a special edition.
16x9 deleted scenes, commentary by Chistopher Guest.
I still hope this is true
I'll second Loverboy(1989)

Fright Night 2
If I'm not mistaken, I believe this one is Artisan's. Previous video incarnations were under the LIVE label.

I also wouldn't mind seeing Night Of The Creeps with the alternate ending, which is sometimes shown on TV.

What about a non-flipper version of Das Boot?

I'd also love to see SE's of:

Tootsie

The Age of Innocence

To Die For

The Last Picture Show (the current DVD has a nice documentary, but lacks a commentary track and a lot of the extras from the Criterion laserdisc).

Thanks for the heads-up, Mr. Kilduff. I have edited my previous requests accordingly.

I'd also like to add that I definitely want to also see Columbia give the Special Edition Treatment to:

Starman

and

Christine

They slipped my mind in my previous post, but are two definite-purchases if Columbia released them.

Top of the list - THE BIG GUNDOWN, if they have the rights to it. It's one of the best spaghetti westerns, arguably as good as much of Leone's 'Dollars' trilogy, and has a great Morricone score and Lee Van Cleef performance.

Also...

TESS

BITTER MOON

REPULSION

and if possible S.E's (with a new transfer on the latter) of Gilliam's FISHER KING and MUNCHAUSEN. If they can port the Criterion commentaries over like they did with the HOLY GRAIL disc, it'd be fantastic.

Bitter Moon is a New Line title and Fright Night 2 I believe is through Artisan.

Good suggestions, folks! I forgot all about Living in Oblivion and The Big Picture. And I'd LOVE to see Starman and Christine SEs.

A few they overlooked? That leaves out some current realeases that could be replaced by more extensive ones.
OK, here's part of my wish list (not 100% sure if it's all Columbia TriStar - BTW do they own former Orion?):
Cardinal, The (1963), Otto Preminger
Casino Royale (1967), John Huston, Ken Hughes, etc.
Chase, The (1966), Arthur Penn
Cromwell (1970), Ken Hughes
Curse of the Mummy's Tomb, The (1964), Michael Carreras
Here Comes Mr. Jordan (1941), Alexander Hall
Hunchback of Notre Dame, The (1982), Michael Tuchner (TV)
Map of the Human Heart (1993), Vincent Ward
Mouse That Roared, The (1959), Jack Arnold
Nadine (1987), Robert Benton
Old Gringo (1989), Luis Puenzo
Revenge of Frankenstein (1958), Terence Fisher
Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993), Mel Brooks
Tess (1979), Roman Polanski
Twentieth Century (1934), Howard Hawks
Where Angels Fear to Tread (1991), Charles Sturridge
Who's Minding the Mint? (1967), Howard Morris
Wind and the Lion, The (1975), John Milius
Not all created equally important, but I would buy any of these immediately if a decent release hit the streets (or before that ;) ).

As for theatrical films, I'd like to see (all OAR):

Annie: Special Edition, with correct framing, 5.1 track and plenty of extras

The Front

Oliver: Special Edition (35th anniversary is next year)

more Three Stooges
