Most theatrical prints are pretty grainy and subpar compared to the original DI or IP. This is before being put thru the projector over and over too.

If done right HD will be a revelation to many films that appeared soft on dvd.

Probably as good as the theatrical prints I've seen. There's some grainy shots though. The current dvd has a crushed black level that doesn't reflect the shadow detail of the actual film. Hopefully the new transfer will clear things up.
