Coming up with a list and please don't give me shit about "God", it ain't happening.
Blade Runner ALIEN Trilogy (seamless branching would be nice and I prefer the Assembly Cut of A3 myself) Indiana Jones (All four films) The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Extended Editions Leon: The Professional - Uncut International Edition STAR WARS Saga Saving Private Ryan GLADIATOR Batman Begins
For ten more to be twenty just because...
The Shawshank Redemption Minority Report Jack Ryan Trilogy The Bourne Trilogy The Terminator Trilogy Fight Club STARGATE Lethal Weapon series Die Hard Trilogy Back to the Future Trilogy
And there you have it. I'm going slightly maaaaaaaaaaaad...
Lord of the Rings Extended (with even more bits... Titanic Hannibal Gladiator Contact Master and Commander Open Range Hero Star Wars the lot... Indiana Jones the lot...
...and because I probably won't be getting into it at all till a unified single format with no Internet connection required , and no Regional Coding ( that takes me to 2025 at least ) a few more of my favs..
Ran The Searchers Lawrence of Arabia The English Patient Seven House of Flying Daggers Amelie Malena (I know , I know) The Wild Bunch Alien Quadrilogy
and anything by Alfred Hitchcock that might benefit from upconversion. The guy was a genius ....
~M~
P.S. "This is not a Blu-ray versus HD DVD thread. Don't even try." Aw, shucks
thanks for bringing up Jean De Flourette and Manon of the Springs...sigh...how beautiful they would be if properly restore/transfered/mastered in 1080P!
LOTR: Extended The 5th Element The Incredibles The Lion King Toy Story(1&2) Gladiator (do I have to clarify that it's not the Cuba Gooding one? ) Sin City Amelie Batman Begins Contact
Lagaan Devdas Baraka Lawrence of Arabia (new HD transfer, old one sucks) Koyaanisqatsi Blade Runner The Year of Living Dangerously La Strada Vertigo Psycho (all transfers from the camera negative, no sharpening, no noise and grain reduction, very high bit rate).
What ChristopherDAC listed, but adding the rest of Studio Ghibli's films he did not list. Seeing "Tonari no Totoro" and "Majo no Takkyuubin" in 1080p would be a slice of heaven for me!
It looks like Mr. Crankypants has decided to drop out. That was the name of an allogator stolen from an Australian zoo, and -- as you might expect -- ditched about a block away.
I had to leave out some of the Ghibli stuff to leave room for some others, of course, particularly HONNEAMISE; and I would honestly not be too broken up not to have Hotaru no Haka.
If I did want to start another ten, I guess I'd have to name: Cowboy Bebop (the movie) Metropolis (Rintaro's) Steamboy (saw this on opening night, in a nearly empty house) Tokyo Godfathers Millenium Actress Tenchi Muyo! In Love (only the first one) Omoide Poro-poro Mononoke-hime Porco Rosso Umi ga Kikoeru
Yeah, I'll add Sen to Chihiro no Kamigakushi and make it 11.
I wasn't instructing you on your religious beliefs. I hope it's PLAINLY OBVIOUS to everyone else that my reference to "God" in this thread was in the context of humor and nothing more.
after seeing this film projected in 70mm this afternoon I have a new title to add to my list:
Hello Dolly
Talk about eye-candy. I know we all think that films like the 5th Element and similar modern movies are able to deliver the best visial impact. WRONG. What I saw this afternoon looked so window-like, so 3-dimensional, sharp, and loaded with detail that it left me (almost) speachless. Color beyond your wildest dreams. Even "perfect" 1920 x 1080 could never capture what I saw this afternoon projected on that screen. Let's hope Fox is able to do some decent transfers of these large-format films for our HD media!!!
Back to the Future Trilogy Charade The Dirty Harry Franchise The Dollar Trilogy (A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, The Good The Bad & The Ugly) Jaws North by Northwest Psycho Rebel without a Cause The Star Wars Saga Vertigo
The really pathetic thing is that you have to explain yourself when it is pretty obvious that the original statement was meant to be tongue-in-cheek. Wow.
Maybe you should have worded it thusly:
A)God, B)Allah, C)Satan, D)Buddah, E)Elvis, F)Whoever you want, or G)None of the above, has decided that you have been A)Good, B)Evil, C)Nirvana-like, D)whatever mental state suits you, and is allowing 10 of your favorite movies to be made in flawless 1080p. Which ones are they?
sure they're able. question is are they willing- and the next question is - will they be willing to do it for a format that (looks like it) is going to be demographically slanted heavily towards young male gamers? (sorry, didn't mean to derail this into a potential format spat) i know you value a broad range of entertainment DaViD, i do too, and i hope that's what we will see available in short time, but its the $64K question i think.
I think for sure that by 2010, the films in 1080p hi-def DVD formats everybody wants will be:
1. The Lord of the Rings trilogy in Extended Editions 2. The Star Wars movies (they'll all look great regardless of version of movies ) 3. Lawrence of Arabia (a movie that screams for a hi-def playback format) 4. Any good movie from the 1950's done in the Cinemascope format 5. The majority of Disney animated movies done since The Little Mermaid 6. All Pixar animated movies 7. Select Studio Ghibli animated features (Nausicaä and the Valley of the Wind, Castle in the Sky, and Princess Mononoke would look AWESOME in hi-def format )
Bah, I got too picky and all that shite. I apologise for my behaviour...
Other films I'd like in 1080p just cause I'd love to see the level of detail brought out due to the resolution. Includes the previous list. I enjoy making lists, what can I say?
STAR TREK The Original Crew Film Series STAR TREK The Next Generation Crew Film Series Sleepy Hollow Young Guns Duology Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles Three Kings The Fugitive Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy Forrest Gump THE THING The 13th Warrior
Exactly. That's really the crux of this thread...films that you personally feel would benefit the most for your viewing pleasure with the added resolution/visual transparency that 1080P could afford...
Ray,
Glad to have you back. The Universe resonates in balance once again (non-specific/non-theist inclusive disclaimer).
