This is not a Blu-ray versus HD DVD thread. Don't even try.

It's five years from now. The format war is over and the "right" format (whatever you want...can even be a unified format) is established in the market. Done.

A rich benefactor buys you the 1080P projector of your dreams. It has perfect specs so don't debate DLP/LCD/LCOS in this thread either. [IMG]

As part of your "you deserve to indulge your 1080P fantasy because you're such a great guy" reward, God has permitted you to request 10 movie titles (more if you're good) to be released in 1080P HD. They will be perfectly restored, transferred at 4K (even large-format films), and optimally mastered/downconverted to 1080P for transparent compression. They'll all get lossless hi-res audio audio that is indistinguishable from the master (and no remixing for a "near field" environment...you get the original mix) and all the coveted bonus features you could shake a stick at.

Ok...so what movies are you gonna pick? [IMG]

So far here's what I'm thinking:

Toy Story 1 and 2 (counts as one selection...hehe)
    Fifth Element
    LOTR trilogy (extended cut...)
Star Wars saga (original versions of original 3 films)
    Ben Hur
    Sound of Music
    2001 a Space Odyssey
    Blade Runner
    Dune
    Fiddler on the Roof

    to start... [IMG]

    Hmmm...(Counting trilogies as one)

    Lord of the Rings(extended editions)
    Indiana Jones
    Star Wars Saga(All of them)
    Costner's Robin Hood
    Stoker's Dracula
    Princess Bride
    Pirates of the Caribbean
    Underworld
    Fifth Element
    Armaggedon

I know, I cheated on the first three, but counting them each as one leaves me 2 over the limit and that kinda sucks.

I just received word from on-high that this is ok. And we each get an additional 10 1080P titles for being so good!

Not sure if I should list my 1080p film fantasy here, after all this is a family forum...

But the original post is one wet dream really.

I'd have to start with Oklahoma! and Around the World in 80 Days, just because 30fps Todd-AO is the "ultimate" film format. Yah, something in Cinerama might be nice too...

    Beyond them?

    Ouritsu Uchuugun: Honneamise no Tsubasa
    Kaze no Tani no Nausicaa
    Tenkuu no Shirou Laputa
    Final Yamato
    Tonari no Totoro
    Majou no Takyuubin
    The Venus Wars
    PomPoko

Tells you plenty about my taste in movies, yes?

    Kelly,

Keep the man happy so he doesn't *need* the 1080P copy!

Ok...just asked for forgiveness so we're back on track and we're still being granted our 1080P film fantasy list...
