New reciever or new speakers? (1 Viewer)

Looking at my next purchase to my HT to be either speakers or a reciever.

I currently have a Sony STR-DE675 5.1 200W receiver with the Sony SA-VE525 speaker system. Would it make more sense to get the Polk RM6900 speaker system or a Yamaha RX-V2500 receiver?

My budget would be around $800 - $1000.

Pick up a Denon receiver and some Paradigm Fronts....You'll be under a $1000 if you're careful. I'm not a big fan of Sony Receivers or speakers. Their receivers are really weak and you might notice some major improvement with something like the Denon AVR 1705...whcih I just got today...$400 from crutchfield

As Michael suggested, you consider replacing speakers and receiver. I would suggest replacing the speakers first because that is where you will hear the biggest difference, but keep the speaker choice in mind with the receiver you would like to purchase.
