Can't stick with just one, but these are always "must-watch" when I run across them:

"The Hunt"- Season 3, Episode 19 of The Twilight Zone

"The City of the Edge of Forever"- Season 1, Episode 28 of Star Trek

"100"- Season 5. Episode 09 of Criminal Minds

This is difficult as there are so many superb episodes of dozens of shows! I'm going to approach it as the single favorite TV episode from a single series but *not* the favorite single episode of all time from any series (see how I cheat that one?)

In no particular order are these all-time-favorites from a few shows:

Star Trek - "The City on the Edge of Forever" (or "Tomorrow is Yesterday," or "Balance of Terror," or "Space Seed," or "The Tholian Web," or...)

Moonlighting - "Atomic Shakespeare" (Loved it when it first aired - love it now)

WKRP - "Turkeys Away"

That 70s Show - "The Pill" (Red hoses down Eric to "cool him off")

I Love Lucy - "Lucy Does a TV Commercial"

The Outer Limits - "Demon with a Glass Hand" (or "The Zanti Misfits")

The Mary Tyler Moore Show - "Chuckles Bites the Dust"

Barney Miller - "Hash" (Everyone on the squad except Barney is stoned by hashish-laced brownies made by Wojo's new girlfriend.)

The Odd Couple - "Fat Farm" (with "Password" a close second)

Fawlty Towers - "The Germans" (or "The Kipper and the Corpse")

The Bob Newhart Show - "Over the River and Through the Woods"

Lost in Space - "No Place to Hide" (the unaired pilot)

Newhart - "The Last Newhart Show" (The payoff was spectacularly good)

I know there are more but those all came off the top of my head...

"Letter to a Duchess" from Magnum p.i., season 4 episode 6. Magnum would have been an average detective show were it not for the beautiful scenery and the love/hate relationship between Magnum and Higgins. In this episode Higgins is never more vulnerable than when he expresses his affection for the duchess, and never more "British" than when he keeps a stiff upper lip upon realizing that she has actually fallen for Magnum. And Magnum is never more magnanimous (no pun intended) than when he tries to steer her affections back toward Higgins. And they do it all without actually expressing their respect for each other.

For a long time I would have listed the I Love Lucy episode "First Stop" (part of the California, Here We Come arc) as the funniest episode of television I ever saw. But now I'd have to go with the Simpsons "Homerpalooza" episode.

Breaking Bad - "Ozymandias"- Amazing television! The best.

Adventures of Superman - "Panic in the Sky" - The one where Superman stops a meteor from hitting Earth and ends up with amnesia.

Taxi - "A Space Odyssey" - The one where Jim goes for his driver's license.

Car 54 - "The Biggest Day of the Year" - The one where Toody tells Muldoon that "today's a very important day", Muldoon, the men and high ranking officials, try to figure out why it is.

The Odd Couple - "Password" - "It's a known fact Lincoln liked Mayonaisse"

Dream On - I don't know the name of the episode, but it's the one where Martin and Eddie get high after finding his son's joint.

Car 54 is such a well-written comedy series!

In addition to your recommended episode, "The Biggest Day Of The Year", I would also recommend "No More Pickpockets" with Wally Cox as a pickpocket impersonating Toody, and "Get Well Officer Schnauser" with Muldoon inadvertantly robbing a bank. Comedy gold.

I remember the Wally Cox one. brilliant, and instantly makes the show underrated too. Saw the show at grandmas in the early 80s (lovely Channel 46 in Altanta, baby!!) great stuff. I really miss it. on my wishlist. :)
