Another reason I think figure skating shouldn't be an Olympic sport is the music. Other sports that involve subjective judging (such as diving, most gymnastics, etc.) don't involve this extra element, which can introduce a subtle bias. Even if it's subconscious, a judge's score may be affected by his or her opinion of the music.

That being said, without figure skating the Winter Olympics would be a complete disaster from a TV ratings standpoint, so it's not going away.

Aside from that informative article, it is worth pointing out for those who don’t know much about skating, that touching the ice with your hands (as Cohen did on her second attempt) is not a fall. Since, according to the rules, it is not a fall, there is not a mandatory deduction applied. Of course the points for the jump are less than they would be for a perfect (or even pretty good) jump.
